Reccomend a Greek Island.
But not Corfu, Kos etc. Looking for somewhere low key and quiet for next summer. Just me and the bird so dont have to worry about keeping kids entertained. Somewhere with a decent beach within walking diatance of accomadatio, nice local bars resturants etc.

Over to you cunts.

I like to try different places but have found myself returning to Skiathos so many times. I like an early week there late May to start the summer season off. Love the place. Stay near a beach and get a boat or bus into town every evening. Happy hour cocktails above the old harbour then a pick of decent restaurants. I love the place on the street, Koziakae, but loads to choose from. all good. Back to the steps and then cab to the hotel. Hire a scooter, best way to visit all the beaches.

It depends on the size of the aircraft. A319's and 737's could probably do it as long as they were only 3/4 full or so.

As mentioned multiple times Skiathos is a great option, trendy but still relaxed, great beaches, beautiful tavernas, superb bathing and the North of the island has some wonderful areas to explore. You really need look no further.

Also, you can fly direct from Skiathos to Gatwick as the runway is - depends what flight you get. I've done it 10 or so times.

There is no way the runway on Skiathos can be extended unless they landfill in on the sea

I'm told they are extending it by landfilling the lake at the other end of the runway.

There are several mainland destinations too, some of which have already been mentioned (OK Greece is part of the Eurasian land mass which is an "island"). Several places from my own experience fit Billy's request for quiet & low key - Tolon, Parga and Stoupa. All have an inland areas to explore by car if you want a change from the beach.

Re: Reccomend a Greek Island.
I always understood that Skiathos had a short runway so couldn't take off with a full fuel load. This year I went on holiday near Volos, flight by Monarch. The plane does a round trip Gatwick - Volos - Skiathos - Gatwick so on the return leg we had to land and take off from Skiathos but then flew directly to Gatwick. Has the runway been extended or something?

Re: Reccomend a Greek Island.
Short runway so prepare for an interesting landing. Also if you are on anything smaller than a 757 you will propbably have to stop at Thessalonika on the way home for a fuel top up.

Kephalonia is a great shout- went last year, travelled around the island and was mightly impressed- stayed here a couple of days- cracking hotel, superb pool and view and five minutes walk to a huge beach and into town- doesnt suffer from budget tours/norvern cunts - couldnt recommend it more highly..

On a slightly different note someone on here recommended Kos to me as a holiday resort and in particular the Hippocrates hotel.

Can I just say it was the best holiday I have ever had with my family.

This site does work!

Re: Reccomend a Greek Island.
Have lived in Greece for 30 years and a part of Athens Hammers. As others have said, Skiathos is beautiful and the advantage is you can fly directly there but I was there last year and think it has now become too touristy (having been a dozen times previously).
Skopelos - a short boat trip from Skiathos - is well worth a visit and much quieter, but if you want peace and quiet with decent accommodation and good tavernas plus numerous small beaches (both sandy and pebbles) with pristine clear water then ALONISSOS should be your choice.
Alonissos is also just a shortish boat trip from Skiathos.
If you want to know any more, or about any islands, just ask.
